Sumario: This paper shows the conceptual analysis of the categories derived from the project called “Characterization of academic processes of CLULS”, which was carried out by a group of teachers and students of Licenciatura en lengua Castellana, Inglés y Francés in the Sciences of Education Faculty. The project is focused on describing the teaching and learning processes developed in the Language Center of the Salle University (CLULS). The characterization is focused on the following aspects: a) communicative competence (linguistic, sociolinguistic and pragmatic), b) learning strategies and c) students’ methodology. From the qualitative and quantitative results found in the aforementioned study, this document has as a purpose to do a theoretical reflection of the following categories analyzed from the perspective of the participant students on the research: the communicative competence (linguistic, sociolinguistic and pragmatic ); the methodology and the learning strategies used by the students.
