The text explores the values as cultural heritage of the region of the volcano of Tequila, newly inscribed on the World Heritagelist of UNESCO in the category of cultural landscape, as well as the challenges and commitments to the international communityto their preservation on the formulation and implementation of a plan of management for the “Agave landscape and theancient industrial facilities of Tequila”.The document is divided into three parts. The first discusses the criteria and the cultural elements that allowed the identificationof the Tequila region and its resulting landscape as cultural heritage. The second explains features, objectives, strategies,management processes and specific projects set out in the management plan of the agave landscape of Tequila to promoteand foster the sustainable development of the region. The third part explains the problem that has been presented for institutionaland concrete implementation of the management plan seeking to incorporate all the actors involved in the region, fromthe date of the inscription as cultural heritage at the present time. This work aims to provide an overview of the work and thechallenges that has passed this initiative since its initial development in 2001 until the present. |
