We were interested in a historical and historiographic review of the architectural production in Lima, from 1948 to 1968, establishing relations between the political, economic and social context and urban conditions, and architectural expressions and typologies. We found that Peru’s economic dependence on the, almost exclusive, export of raw materials; directly affected the Peru’s ability to provide basic services (education, health) to the public because of the lack ofnecessary infrastructure and, ultimately, for the lack of economic and fi nancial resources. This led to a direct and causal relationship between the economic growth of the Nation and the development of necessary infrastructure for the State. The period under review shows the great architectural production and building (edilicia) built, which tried to cure a serious defi cit in services for the citizen. It was possible to verify the evolution of the formal architectural patterns and the stylistic infl uences in the new projects and buildings. There was a change - during the fi rst three decades of the s. XX - from the classical Neo to a variety of European styles that was favored by an increasing dominance of the modernist criteria as well as the identity intention to include pre-Hispanic local forms in attempts that were denominated Neo Peruvian. Also due to the magnitude of these projects, new civil works were incorporated to the construction processes. |
