Asset Management for its significant economic impact on companies, has faced in recent times many changes in its processes, from the typical approach to repair equipment only when they cease to function or damaged in order to extend their lives, until the current concept focused on reliability. This work has had to adjust to increasingly stringent international regulations on the matter (ISO 55000, 55001, 55002) and strict corporate governance practices in a world of globalized markets, exacerbated by rising competition, rapid technological changes, significant demands for the quality of products and services, incessant anxiety for reducing costs, improving profitability, customer satisfaction, for safety, for the protection of the environment.
Until recently, asset management was intensive labor discipline and therefore too expensive, but in recent years has been of great importance the advent of specialized methodologies and software tools such as Enterprise Asset Management (EAM acronym for Enterprise asset Management) solution that enables the management of physical assets throughout their lifecycle, from design, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance, clearing up and recycling.
In Colombia there are two major providers of this type of software: IBM Corp. with Maximo Asset Management product (using Maximo Asset Management), vertical application that provides a focused asset management (EAM) and SAP AG Maintaining your product vision Plant SAP PM (Plant Maintenance SAP acronym) with some capacity to manage assets based on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning).
Market research conducted for this study showed that the vast majority of Colombian companies to plan their company resources typically use a SAP ERP because this company was a pioneer in our country with such solutions and so consider the use of SAP PM to manage your business assets, why this software is better positioned than IBM Maximo.
