Objective: To describe central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) and branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO), their clinical characteristics, diagnosis, treatment, and risk factors, using the most up-todate information. Materials and methods: A systematized search was developed in the PubMed, Science Direct, ProQuest, and Medline databases, among others; in addition, literary texts with information on the topic were included. Documents and information were selected from a publication period between 2005 and 2016. Conclusion: CRVO and BRVO are prevalent pathologies in the daily practice; the diagnostic approach used in optometry is of vital importance, since correct referral is beneficial for patients. |
