Sumario: The celebration of the Centennial Anniversary of Independence in Peru meant, especially to the City of Lima, the opportunity to generate a series of changes, between 1921 and 1924. New avenues, squares and parks began to transform the structure of the city. The modernistic project of the "Oncenio de Leguía" government was dedicated with special emphasis, to improve the condition of hygiene, transport and public services. At the same time, it gave e great speculation in properties, with a strong tendency to the housing developments of agricultural lands. The city had been expanded like it had never been done before, taking up the south zones: in front of an "antique" Lima another "modern" had been developed. Great quantities of lands were used to build new houses. The architecture of rich sectors had been manifested in a very varied way, expressing exotic tastes for the remote past or distant realities. Something else: the public sculpture became especially important for the city image that wanted to be among the great capitals of America. The celebrations of centennial left a city in a process of growth. The power had shown will in producing important changes, and in improving, decorating and converting the city: a capital with new wishes and pretensions was being born. The success of the celebrations also left a strengthened and consolidated government that would last several years more, until it fell into disgrace. The modernization of the city, not the modernity and less yet the modernity of the country, once again would be incomplete.
