Sumario: Today, most of the world’s cities have inventories of their urban-architectural heritage, which are precisely characterized according to the level of utilitarian interest they represent for the city. This is why a large number of patrimonial assets remain invisible to the community itself, which makes it difficult to manage them for understanding and conservation. The present article has as interest the set of vernacular houses of the piedmont of San Cayetano in Cali, which is part of the founding commune of the city, and seeks to be recognized by all the population given the richness of traditions that still survive and thus Provide management for its preservation. The theoretical perspective is based on the concept of decoration, which derives from the conception of architecture in its dual form of production: as a physical manifestation that allows its occupation and as a manifestation of the symbolic relations of culture. In this way, the decoration, in its contemporary meaning, is considered as the social behaviors that allow the organization of the material space, for which it is necessary investigative instruments that allow to unveil both the forms of organization of the physical, as well as the forms of Representation of the immaterial.
