After the completion of the first collection of traditional songs, rounds and rhymes, the “Kodály–Colombia Research Group” from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana is now beginning to develop the adaptation of the Kodály Method to traditional Colombian music. The musical objectives of Kodály musical training may be listed as to develop the ability of all children to: Sing a large number of traditional singing games, chants, and folk songs, drawn first from the child’s own heritage of folk song material and later expanded to include music of other cultures and countries. The adaptation of these Colombian singing games, chants, and folk songs to the Kodály concept are analyzed as well as one of the tools of the method: the controversial movable do. |
