Sumario: This article display a synthesis of the methodologic process, the obtained results and the challenges and difficulties found throughout the development of the Great Metropolitan Area Regional Plan of the Central valley of Costa Rica. This it is a project financed by the European Union with cost of 18 million Euros that became the first project of financing in the area of regional urban planning in Central America. The objective is to transmit the important aspects of the process, their scientific technical methodology but also the difficulties of implementation, the negotiation with pressure groups and the second great component of a project of this type as it is it the implementation or “the day later” of finalized the plan. The conclusions have aspects important to consider in the development of projects of this type and that complements the technical aspects with those of management.
