Sumario: This article describes a methodological qualitative process within an analytical framework that retrieves different aspects treated from human geography, the subjacent spatial structure in Barrancabermeja, and more specifically, current socio-spatial segregation, its factors and characteristics. This is not only the result of the socioeconomic resources and lack of real planning and territory public policies, but also the violence that has affected this city and the Magdalena Medio region in general. In this context, this document becomes an important empirical approximation toward the new formulation of public policies that in some way permit to decrease not only negative segregation and functional imbalances, but also stigmas generated toward communities in sectors with low socioeconomic resources and historically characterized by high levels of violence as a product of the internal armed conflict.
