Sumario: Since 1999 a campus-community partnership experience, linking the school of Nursing of the Universidad javeriana with people from a neighborhood in Bogotá, Colombia, has been in operation. Using a participatory approach, and with much very limited financial resources, the parthnership has developed child and community health programs, health education, and research on health care practices, therapeutic itineraries in infant health care, and the history of the neighborhood. This experience demonstrates the adventage and trust. Health programs have been designed, integrating community's social capitol based on a long history of participation and activism, community's resources as well as nurses' knowledge and skills as advisors. Advantages, obstacles, and limitations of participatory approach are discussed.
