Sumario: Citizen political distrust and discomfort withdemocracy has led politicians to explore newmechanisms and levels of participation thatlessen the prominence of traditional elites in theprocess of decision-making systems.Like most Latin American countries, Chile hasdeveloped a process of political reforms thathave, among other things, the strengthening oflocal authorities as one of their central axes inturn, linked to innovations in the field of participationlocal citizen.Nevertheless, these gradual reforms that havefailed to significantly modify the relationshipbetween local government and citizens.
