Sumario: During the years that followed the Independence of Colombia, an intense, controversial and difficult debate rose around the reorganization of the Army Forces, especially on the reform of their jurisdiction and military justice. Even though it is true that the origin of such project was part of a process of organization and structuring of a new political and institutional order, its setting-up was also  grounded on power relations established by both opponents and supporters of the measure, addressing to each one’s specific interests. This article describes and analyses the problem from speeches and debates –made public through the press and through laws created on the matter– generated in the country during the period 1821-1829.
