This article critically examines the current tendency of technological convergence from a communicative, cultural, and political point of view, a field whereby, nowadays, the relationship between technology and society take place. In fact, it argues on behalf of the importance of understanding the processes of technological convergence within the context –and complex interactions– of cognitive, cultural, and political transformations taking place in our societies. Herein we explore a manifest return to subjectivity as well as the agency of social actors when facing the crisis of traditional institutions and, consequently, the power but also the threats involved in a double process of cultural and technological convergence in current societies. |
