Sumario: Based on in-depth interviews following categories of class, generation and gender, the paper explores the arrival and diffusion of television in the city of Cali (Colombia) between 1954 and 1970. Memories about this slow and uneven process are interpreted within a framework that includes central features of modernization in the region such as the transformation of domestic areas, the acquisition of home appliances, and the revaluation of female labour, among others. Through a detailed description of the role of television in multiples areas of daily life, the study examines the process of incorporation of communication technologies into domestic spheres, understood as an area of convergence for public and private life.
