Introduction: Trying to describe the current status of geriatricians in Colombia is an arduous and complex task but also very pleasant and comforting, because it reflects the state of the art and its importance in the Colombian health system. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional observational study, survey type, held in August 2013.Analysis: It was sent 51 online surveys to geriatricians. A response rate of 48% was obtained, with a percentage of 100 % complete surveys. Most geriatricians are in Bogota and Cali. 75 % obtained the title of specialist in geriatrics, the remaining 15 % graduated as specialists in internal medicine and geriatrics. The job performance of geriatricians is framed in its activity to inpatient and outpatient level (27%), followed by activities such as university teachers (23%), and home visits (22%).Conclusions: This work help us to make an approach to the practice of Geriatric Medicine in the country, a first exploration to the work of Colombian physician geriatrician, considering its limitations by the study characteristics and the percentage of survey respondents. |
