Sumario: This is an exploration of the boundaries of problem areas in the study of the child and the family seen as the object for psychological intervention in Argentina in the 1950ies. Based on a clinical history published by Arminda Aberastury in 1957 in Revista de Psicoanálisis, several analytical approaches are discussed from a historiographic perspective in the light of the history of psy-disciplines and a theory of values. The emphasis is on the connecting thread between the values attached to the individual (the child) and the family, as well as health/sickness criteria, gender roles, and the significance of those in the knowledge and understanding informing the clinical practices at the time.
