Sumario: Etymologically, alexithymia means: “no words for feelings”, a construct whereby the author Sifneos refers to encapsulate the cognitive-affective factors in the communication of psychosomatic patients in medical appointments. Defense mechanisms on their part, consist of unconscious procedures intra and interpsychic in which the ego handles to diminish the opposite tendencies in different agencies in personality, to deal with anxiety of the intra-psychic conflict and its repercussions in relation with others; demonstrating the close relation between a concept and another. This paper also intends to make a brief historical review regarding alexithymia.
