Sumario: By analyzing acoustic signals produced by vessels, an algorithm is developed in order to detect, classify and locate vessels in the water. To develop this algorithm, we consider the operating conditions of vessels such as: weight, speed and medium conditions such as background and environmental noise. Measurements were performed under controlled conditions with test boats in an Olympic pool. Furthermore, we used recordings of real vessels, recorded at Cartagena, Colombia, to verify the correct operation of the algorithm. We made records with different speeds and different weights, which were processed by the algorithm. By last, algorithm development was based on parametric methods for estimating the power spectral density (PSD) for random signals as are used in this work.
