Objective: Determining the frequency of Babesia spp. and factors of risk in medical and auxiliary veterinarian’s parts of VEPA, Bolívar. Methodology: 56 samples a census of medical and auxiliary veterinarian’s from Cartagena, Bolívar will be analyses. It was observed in extended of blood with Wright and Diff Quick, also socio-demographic variables, risk factors and symptoms in the last two months of the study population are analyzed.
Results: suspicious structures of genus Babesia were observed in the extended with Wright and Diff Quik stain, being the frequency of positive cases 5,36%; among the sociodemographic variables it demonstrated that most veterinary clinics are located in locality 1, Historica y del Caribe by 71%. Of the established risk factors for the presence of vectors in the workplace was a constant at 89.29% of the staff, have animals at home with 73.21% and the presence of vectors in homes 46.43%; the most common symptoms were headache 42.86%, and 28.57% with fatigue. Conclusions: in Colombia Babesiosis it’s not a reportable disease, so there is not known the real load of this infection in the territory. Veterinary staff is constantly exposed to risk factors that increase the chance of making an infection with Babesia spp.. In relation to the obtained results it puts in evidence the need for health authorities take initiation of analyzing the distribution, propagation and control of populations in risk, to develop effective strategies of diagnosis and prevention for this type of infections. |
