Sumario: This project intends to evaluate and compare the loudness in an objective and subjective way in a short film between de sound mix developed for surround sound 5.1 and binaural. For this purpose, it was proposed to measure loudness in the short film according to the Recommendation ITU-R BS. 1770-4 that specifies the algorithms to measure multichannel audio program loudness and compare these results with subjective tests in individuals with knowledge in audiovisual area. From this comparison, we sought to determine if the subjects can identify loudness changes between different audio samples of the short film when played through the Opsodis sound reproduction system. The objective comparison between the algorithm used in this project and the loudness measurement plugin, showed differences between -2 and -3 loudness units in both measurement methods, whereas in the objective comparison between the 5.1 sound mix 5.1 and the binaural sound mix – using the algorithm -, differences of approximately 1 loudness unit were observed. Subjective tests showed results where loudness changes, in 5.1 sound mix and binaural sound mix, are perceived by individuals from 2 loudness units above and below a reference loudness level.
