The publication in Latin America of a monographic issue about India Studies is an academic phenomenon with a very interesting sociological and political signi'cance. It is an evidence of the encounter of two peripheral regions regarding the most prestigious scienti'c and academic mainstream institutions of Europe and North America. It is true that even though this encounter aims at the production and promotion of knowledge it does not lack signs of academic dependence regarding the centers mentioned. A study of the bibliography used by the specialists who participate in our issue can provide a notion of the degree of this dependence. Nevertheless, this encounter is also a clear index of
the will and the capacity of our regions to establish bilateral academic relations. |
