This is a document that contains a systematized description of my two internship experiences at the Oncologos del Occidente institution, which is one of the most recognized institutions in Eje Cafetero for the management of cancer, especially with adults. In the city of Manizales, the palliative care team began operating within the institution in December 2015, opening up the possibility of supporting this team from my area of psychology and my emphasis as a future specialist in the subject. Which allowed me to develop a very productive internship focused on my academic, work and personal needs and especially those of the institution.
Within my two internships I managed to complete a total of 281 hours, which included home visits to patients with different types of cancer and their families for evaluation, intervention and follow-up; In addition to performing some important interventions with the interdisciplinary team which focused on the importance of caring for the other and of themselves, especially considering the emotional; Also in the prevention of burnout and beginning the training in communication skills of bad news. |
