Sumario: The Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) has protected the right to truth in several of its judgments, although it is not a right that is expressly enshrined in the American Convention on Human Rights. In this regard, this study aimed to analyze the legal arguments used the IACHR to protect the right to truth, relying guidance of qualitative research and hermeneutical method. The results led to the conclusion that the attribution that the Court gives the right to the truth as an important means of redress is evident in several of its judgments. Likewise, prevention of impunity as a way to satisfy the access to the truth of the victims and their families. The binding nature of international law and treaties, is one of the main resources that guide the measures to protect the right to truth of the victims, with the American Convention on Human Rights treated more relevance from the judgments studied.
