Sumario: This essay attempts to show that the pure concept of law, as introduced by Kant’s practical philosophy, is fundamental for a normative thought of democracy, freedom, and the possibility of stable democratic peace, in contrast with a peace as modus vivendi or as a stable balance of forces. The kind of freedom that must be considered in the Colombian democracy is the one proposed by Pettit, that is, a republican freedom that rejects arbitrary intromissions by official and private institutions on citizens, by means of the constitutional control. Therefore, it is possible to consider that Colombia should be thought as a realistic Utopia.
