Sumario: The objective of the research was to identify the problem situations that affect the psychological well-being of formal caregivers of institutionalized older adults and to recognize the use of coping strategies to minimize the negative effects of work and thus optimize their work. Study of mixed approach of descriptive, non-experimental type. Participation of 12 caregivers, 9 of them from a geriatric institution with a high socioeconomic stratum, the remaining 3 caregivers from a geriatric institution of medium socio-economic stratum. A survey and a structured interview were conducted. The information was codified and categorized as: Problematic situations in the work environment, Unmet personal needs in the workplace scenario, affecting psychological well-being, Problem-focused coping strategies and Emotion-focused coping strategies. The results show that situations in the work environment that affect psychological well-being are classified in the physical, emotional and relational dimensions. Unmet personal needs in the work setting affecting psychological well-being were classified into 2 categories, within the working environment (difficulty to take active breaks, little possibility of self-care practices) and outside the working environment (little possibility of rest and The permanent disposition to work); Coping Strategies focused on the problem use of dialogue, avoidance of problems, resolution of problems, adherence to guidelines and academic updating, and finally in the Strategies of coping with emotion, use of social support, emotional expression and self-criticism
