Sumario: Th e objective of this research is to describe the organization and parental roles in blended families of a group of women of low socioeconomic status of Cali. Th is is an exploratory study conducted through recorded interviews to nine women between 22 and 37 years old, inhabitants of the 18 Commune who had children from diff erent relationships or played the role of stepmothers. Among the main fi ndings was the lack of economic resources as determinants for the family reconstitution decision: women are forced to rebuild their family because of her children’s father abandonment, because on their own they cannot ensure their survival. Th is new bonds are formed without having a kinship relationship among the new members or a function defi ned by the law on what to do.
