This article presents the results of the project Rhetoric and Concepts of Health in Family Relations. Beyond describing or representing mechanisms, essences or inner states, the way family relationships are named, are linked to particular uses of language and discursive social and historical constructions in which the narrative genres and rhetoric used have a persuasive power that produces realities with which certain social voices become natural, legitimating, in this way, particular experiences and knowledge about emotions. Thus hegemonic conceptions of wellbeing are reinforced but paradoxically, alongside these hegemonic discourses are hidden or joined to cultural ways of “good manners”, likely to produce divergent interpretations. |
