Sumario: The importance of the handicraft in Latin America is undeniable. Two hundred sixty thousand artisans produce useful and decorative elements and in this dynamic, producing ceramic crafts in Colombia, like any other production process generates negative environmental impacts, issue that from a business point of view should be assumed by artisans. The environmental impacts include the contribution to greenhouse gases generated by the use of wood stoves, damage and change in the morphology of the terrain where clay is extracted represents a significant landscape deterioration, the use of toxic substances as lead and cadmium, which contribute greatly to the pollution of soil, surface and groundwater, apart from being a significant risk to the health of consumers and craftsmen. This paper seeks to deepen the knowledge we have about the impacts of the production of ceramic handicrafts in Colombia, by analyzing the production process and results in environmental terms, in order to pose an environmental management system-business to minimize the environmental effects that the production process of the sector generates.
