Sumario: An intellectual journey is made by the most representative detailing going against and in favor of the rights of non-human animals, trying to propose the acceptance of ownership of "dignity" to them, taking into account the richness and the spiritual support it is enclosed in the thought of Francis of Assisi with respect to animals and nature itself. Synthesis, attempts to make approaches to respond to the question: Can non-human animals be holders of dignity, taking into account the advances in matter on rights of animals and the lighting that offers the Franciscan spirituality?
