Sumario: This paper, which is a conceptual review monograph style, tries to make a comparative analysis from two psychological perspectives (psychoanalysis and humanism) on the concept of pain experienced by a subject following a significant loss of something material, an ideal, another person, or anything that is charged with a subjective value. Throughout the paper the results on the basic conceptions of mourning takes from psychoanalysis and humanism, reviewing the concept, etiology, process and clinical and therapeutic strategies for the development of mourning picking up some classics and some contemporary authors who have conducted studies on this subject from each of the psychological approaches mentioned.
