Introduction: Blood is a vital therapeutic liquid, hence the need for sufficient, safe, affordable and timely blood to meet the needs of the entire population who are in need of transfusion of some blood components to improve their quality of life. At present this liquid is considered as an irreplaceable resource, so until today, the
only source to obtain it comes from the donations of whole blood made by people in blood banks or collection posts, however, during the process of Donation may be adverse donation reactions (RAD) that may endanger the health of the donor and frustrate the intention of wanting to be supportive. Objective: to deepen the review of the literature on the different adverse reactions experienced by blood donors, before, during and after the blood extraction procedure and the clinical management of each one. Methodology: The data collection process was carried out manually and electronically using the different data sources in both Spanish and English, including Scielo, ScienceDirect, Medigraphic, Revista de la Instituto Nacional de Salud (Biomedical) and Colombia Medical. Guidelines were also used for the selection of blood donors and manual of technical, administrative and procedural standards in blood banks. Conclusion: blood banks must have a protocol or guide to action against the different types of adverse reactions that may occur at the time of donation. |
