Sumario: The objective of this research is to identify the personality traits of gambling addicts in the foundation of NISSI restoration and training homes since 16 PF-5 in the city of Ibagué Tolima. According to the above, a quantitative study of the type is proposed. descriptive, with an analytical and cross-sectional empirical model. The instruments administered for the present investigation were an ordinal measurement survey that uses the diagnostic criteria of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V) on pathological gambling, handling categories such as game frequency, handling problems and distribution of money, deterioration in relationships, denial of the condition of addiction and nervousness; followed ASSIST V3.0 is applied which consists of 8 items that identify the level of consumption of different addictive substances in addition to the level of risk to address the type of intervention in intensity and frequency and finally the Personality Questionnaire of 16 factors of RB, Cattell. A sample that will be used in the present work through non-probabilistic sampling by discretion will consist of 5 subjects with a higher score of gambling addiction and minimal or no other addictions; male and adults. According to the results of the global scales the participants scored low on extraversion, hardness, independence, reasoning and self-control, while anxiety was high; according to the sub-scales of each global, personality traits in gambling addicts are characterized by being introverted, tend to be less sociable, devaluing social relationships, spending more time being with oneself than with others; they are calculating, skeptical and cautious, maintaining a marked index of self-sufficiency, they are not very sensitive and not very receptive, being cold and distant before their surroundings, consciously generating a social undesirability; and parallel to this they have difficulties accepting new points of view and expressing emotions or situations that imply a degree of sensitivity and empathy. They are also uninhibited people and dissatisfied with social norms, they can have impulses of struggle and flight accentuating their anxiety and tension, disturbing their self-control; they are shown with a lack of confidence, worried and insecure; likewise their accommodation or submission may be related to the desire to avoid harm or anxiety; and finally a type of abstract thinking, involving a capacity to postulate hypothesis, maintaining schemes that allow them to predict, deduction, draw conclusions, think and act symbolically and thus increase the chances of winning, this being a factor that could affect in maintaining his addiction
