Taking into consideration that the human auditory system can perceive the sound in three dimensions, the location of a sound source, and its rotation in space, it is sought to establish a method, which, through signal processing and reproduction with headphones, emulates this effect on the auditor.
It’s set a comparison of three different processing methods for rotation of the sound field in unit sphere. It is proposed to analyze these methods in an objective metric, exposing its advantages and limitations. This is done by the numerical calculation of an error given by each of the methods considered.
The methods to compare are the following: Head Related Transfer Function (HRTF), Spherical Harmonic expansion and Vector Base Amplitude Panning (VBAP). In order to determine which of these methods provides a greater fidelity and, therefore, quality in the spatial audio processing. In addition, it is analized their practicality and computational efficiency, in which the last two methods become less practical, since these are initially intended for reproduction in loudspeakers arrays. For headphones reproduction, they depend on the first method. Finally, a model is proposed that improves the limitations. |
