Introduction: With the implementation of the national blood policy in Colombia, blood banks changed donor recruitment strategies and significantly reduced the number of donors targeted by increasing the number of voluntary or altruistic donations, in compliance with the objectives set by this policy. improve the quality of the selection to guarantee protection to the donor and the recipient. However, donation of altruistic blood decreases iron levels. This topic of general impact has been studied by different authors, who manifest the iron deficiency caused by other factors. Objective: To determine the prevalence of serum ferritin deficiency in altruistic donors of
blood banks taking into account gender, age and previous donations from a systematic review. Methodology: A bibliographic review was carried out electronically selecting 50 articles of great importance, through a broad search in databases in both Spanish and English, which include Scielo, Science diretc, PubMed; Medigraphic published between 2005 and 2017 and reports from the National Institute of Health. Conclusion: In this search, we were able to confirm the existence of changes in serum ferritin concentration during each blood donation made by regular donors in blood banks. A relation was established between the search performed through 15 articles in which the values were presented with percentage values prevailed of the deficient levels of ferritin in the donors properly referre |
