The business model for creating new companies having a high research component is called spin-off. This type de projects has a methodological orientation based on creating enterprises aimed at exploiting technological and research resources, both software or hardware resources, having as purpose obtaining economic results and entering in business activities. Spin-off derives from the triple helix model, where the University creates knowledge, companies are the place of production and the government guarantees the stability, exchange and research funding. Spin Off creation has emerged as both universities and government interests have changed in its triple helix model. Within the Colombian environment these institutions are represented by Colciencias and the national Government with their policies on science, technology and innovation. In Colombia the creation and implementation of Spin-Off is still in an exploratory stage, which includes creating some Spin-off in different fields. The first University Spin Off created in Colombia, called as Knowledge and Engineering Services Company (Conoser), appeared at the University of Antioquia. |
