Objective: Describe the meanings constructed by young children of the State in relation to the preparation for graduation towards an autonomous and independent life. Method: Qualitative descriptive-interpretative study, based on semi-structured in-depth interviews with three men and one woman, between the ages of 21 and 23 who are part of the graduation program at the Colombian Family Welfare Institute (hereafter referred to as ICBF). Each interview had an approximate time of 40 to 70 minutes. Results: The data obtained allowed to understand that young people make a positive assessment of ICBF and assume it as a valuable process and with a set of academic, work and personal opportunities. They point out the opportunity to study and work as part of their goals as a central element, as well as elements that allowed resignifying past experiences and improving their quality of life. In addition, they refer to the accompaniment of family supporters and the support networks established by young people as fundamental. Conclusions: The preparation for graduation represents for the young people to assume an independent and autonomous life. In this sense, the ICBF represents for young people the possibility of building a life project, where the agency of them as subjects of decisions and empowered of their process. It means for young people, "their home-their home", beyond a state institution, because it represents possibilities for personal and professional fulfillment. Rescued from the life project program, the importance of family meaning given by young people, similarly it is common for young people to interact spontaneously with peers, creating positive strategies on interpersonal relationships, gaining greater maturity and responsibility thanks to the built outside of institutionalization. |
