Animal-assisted therapy is already several years in various countries. In the city of Cali (Colombia) he has been venturing into therapeutic centers for a few years, in which horse-assisted therapy, therapy or equine therapy are used as a complementary measure to pharmacological, educational and physiological treatment, in order to improve the well-being and / or quality of life of patients with different conditions such as cognitive disability, physical disability, people residing in geriatric centers, children with learning deficits, among others. Its efficiency and effectiveness have been demonstrated through research conducted in areas such as geriatrics (Muñoz, Máximo, Valero, Atín, Varela & Ferriero, 2013), psychiatry (Chardonnens, 2009), and education (Geist, 2011), which benefits both physical and psychological. Given this, the present study aims to describe the potential benefits at the socio-adaptive level of hippotherapy from interviews with families who take this therapy for a family member, as well as the hippotherapy coordinator of a neurorehabilitation center in the city of Cali and one of the therapists who works in this place. The findings include, emphasizes the discourse of the parents and improves improvements in their psychomotricity, static and dynamic balance, toning of the musculature, postural alignment and increase in lung capacity. In turn, they improve sensory integration, promote thick psychomotor coordination, promote the walking pattern, strengthen their affective bonds, reduce their stress, anxiety, regulate their emotions, improve their interpersonal, social relationships and observe benefits in their basic aspects of verbal and non-verbal communication. The three children improved their self-esteem and confidence in them. Learn to handle their fears and face novel situations. Likewise, the interviewees reinforce themselves in the basic psychological processes: attention, their behavioral aspects: they learn to give and to the orders, norms, limits, work in a team, wait turns. However, in cities like Cali it has not been accepted or formalized, neither at present, nor in the evidence nor in the risks, nor in the doctors, nor in the patients, nor in the necessary costs. |
