Sumario: In the present work, a corrosion and fouling study was carried out in the atmospheric tower of the crude distillation unit, in order to establish the main causes and provide possible solutions to treat and prevent these phenomena. In order to achieve the proposed objective, the case study methodology was carried out to cover different sources and related research that would allow extracting key information for the analysis of causes, diagnosis of the current situation of the unit's main team and proposing possible solutions. As a result of this study it was found, reported corrosion rates between 12-17 mpy, indicate that the tower is operating almost within the permissible limits. In addition, it is required to work at the lowest possible pressure in the tower, since it directly affects the liquid-vapor balance. Finally, three alternatives of possible solutions were proposed to improve the current problem in the company, being the alternative 1 the most suitable option for its next implementation, because it is feasible technically and environmentally.
