Sumario: This article presents the Order of Preachers’s contribution to the Independence of the New Kingdom of Granada and, in particular, the one undertaken by the University Convent of Saint Dominic in Tunja. The motives that impelled the dominican friars to be part of this process are revealed, thanks to the support of the Tomistic and the other two University convents from Tunja and Cartagena.
