Sumario: This paper assesses the competitiveness of cocoa farmers in Santander Colombia, using Porter’s five forces model; for this purpose, the producers of the region of San Vicente del Carmen Chucurí and Chucurí (Santander, Colombia) were studied. The results show that the production of cocoa beans in recent years has become an unattractive investment for the productive activity because the large profit margins are running for the processors of the production chain. Moreover the cocoa farmers in the region face a major financial crisis due to the lack of productivity and competitiveness in the production of cocoa beans.
