Compressive strength and durability are parameters of vital importance in concrete since they reflect the service life of a structure.
Therefore, this experimental work has the aim to evidence that quality of the aggregates influences the compressive strength.
Aggregates of three different local quarries which are popularly used in the city of Quito, were preselected in order to perform same characterization essays and mixture design with the objective to compare final results about their quality.
Those results determined the best performance in aggregates of the river quarry, followed by aggregate from Pifo, and the aggregate brought from Mitad del Mundo as the one with the lower results.
An alternative procedure was performed in the aggregate considered with the poorer quality in order to optimize the utilization of the different sizes of aggregate in the concrete. Also it was shown that compressive strength in concrete rises. |
