Sumario: The following project involves the design and construction of a machine for characterizing the hardenability of steels, its mains function is to be a tool contribution to strengthen the study of alloy steel, because of its significant influence on the design of machine elements. The machine design is based on Spanish standard UNE-EN ISO 642, which refers to a standard procedure widely used to determine the hardenability called Jominy test. The machine consists of a cooling device or hardening, this has a fixing and centering cylinder located directly above the water outlet, so that cooling takes place exclusively in the lower base of the specimen, the device is protected from drafts so you will be locked in a test tank, and a water recirculation system driven by a centrifugal pump and a reservoir tank. Thus, it is possible to analyze and to compare results of hardenability and represent the material from hardening characteristics.
