Sumario: This research is based on the pollution generated by industrial enterprises in the metallurgical sector located in the Metropolitan District of Quito that were found active in the period 2012 - 2013 from there that the purpose of it, was to apply targeted environmental management indicators to assess the level of pollution generated air emissions and solid waste, according to the results verifying compliance and controls to reduce the pollution that occurs in the production process thereof. For this it was necessary to know the definition of indicators of environmental management, the origin of the metals industry and the different pollutants generated by them are described, we proceeded to perform the environmental management indicators based on the skills acquired in the field of environmental audit, the results obtained are analyzed and finally, conclusions and recommendations are issued on the basis of the examination. Implementing environmental management indicators, it revealed that large enterprises in the metallurgical sector generate less pollution than small, as they have the necessary financial resources to acquire environmentally friendly equipment as well as a department led care, environmental control and remediation of damage caused in the course of their operations, while smaller work under less favorable conditions as are local that do not have the necessary requirements to mitigate pollution, either by the emission into the atmosphere or solid waste .
