Sumario: This paper presents the possible application of Wavelet-transform in electrical distribution systems as a fault diagnostics tool applying the characteristics of the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Multi-resolution (MRA) for each signal analysis. The method must be able to detect, locate and classify events, acquiring the necessary information on the behavior of the entire system, which is necessary for the essential use of a database, it must contain the voltage and current information, for state of failure and pre-failure simulated system with special interest in the behavior of the current signal. For fault diagnostics it is necessary the application of two algorithms applied both to locate and to classify the various types of faults, using information from the wavelet detail coefficients, in the same manner is essential to know the speed of wave propagation, which for this analysis is calculated for each segment of the system, measured from the distribution substation. The results obtained by applying the proposed method in this article have done on the system IEEE 34 bar tests designed in ATP, finding the effectiveness of the method.
