This project proposes the study of two types of clays whose mines are in Belen, located in the Azuay province and Lita in the Carchi province to verify if they meet the characteristics required to manufacture low voltage ceramic insulators.
Chapter one refers onto the basic definitions of ceramic materials, the different types of physical- chemical tests which the clays will be subjected in order to verify their properties and characteristics that the ceramic insulators must have to comply according with the ANSI 53-2 standard.
Chapter two describes the alternatives of insulators that exist in the market and which types are required by Ecuador's electricity distribution companies, as well as comparing similarities, differences, advantages and disadvantages that exists between the imported insulators front those produced locally.
Chapter three shows the results acquired in the physical- chemical tests of the clays under study; formulation of ceramic pastes, design and manufacture of the “tarraja” knife and the insulator manufacture process.
Chapter four sheds the production costs of the insulator prototype and VAN- TIR analysis in order to check the project's profitability. |
