Sumario: The research is based on the analysis of the roles in families of origin through stories made by 10 patients 5 men and 5 women diagnosed with schizophrenia Psychiatric Hospital in Quito in July Endara, for understanding schizophrenia through family stories told by patients, resulting in and confirming through systemic theory that schizophrenia may be caused by family factors, such as role confusion mostly taking roles of children parentalizados, triangulated and scapegoat ambivalent mothers, fathers authoritarian and rigid, influencing family communication resulting in a double bind communication, paradoxically, to safeguard the family homeostasis, which is why it is said that schizophrenia is a self-sacrifice to maintain family unity.
