Sumario: Historically, the relationship that indigenous nationalities have maintained with the geographical space has been characterized by the incorporation of cultural strategies in which spiritual dimensions of these groups and ecological dynamics of the inhabited territory have conjugated. In this way, they managed to accomplish systems of production which are respectful with the environment. However, since colonial times, and then with the consolidation of the state apparatus, in a systematic way, these social groups started to get diminished and their relation to the geographical and ancestral worldview on natural resource management, started to get ignored. In fact, in the late sixties, the recognition of the communal property became one of the major strategies, which led to the revalorization of the culture of indigenous communities that are located in the Ecuadorian Amazon. In general, it can be stated that in the struggle for recognition / with appropriation of the territory, a way of consolidating a system of institutional representation, has been achieved. In this way, the leading role of these actors re-established the historical and political way of thinking about resource management and natural development.
