The special characteristics of topography that the Andean cities present
certain problems in the design of works, for sewerage systems, with
simultaneous changes of level and direction of flow with free surface.
In cities like Quito, residential areas increasingly reach critical levels
location causing the dilemma of finding technical and economic solutions that
allow the conduction of waters, saving large differences with developments
minimum longitudinal of the work.
In these cases, the design recommendations suggest placing pending
minimum lengths in the conduction, which give rise to speeds below the
allowable to design special jump structures that allow the dissipation of the
potential energy due to unevenness. In a great majority of cases it is about heights
greater than 2.00 m.
