Sumario: Jute is a plant that generates a high amount of vegetable fiber with which, frequently, sacks are made to transport raw materials. With the aim to propose an alternative utilization of this material, in the present research is compared the mechanical performance of an ordinary concrete produced with national materials against concretes containing different percentages of jute fiber (0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3% and 0.4%). From such mixtures, several specimens were done in order to be tested for compression and flexural strength at the ages of 7, 14 and 28 days. Based on the experiments carried out, it is concluded that, under the specific conditions used in this work, the strengths generated were increased when an optimal percentage of 0.2% of jute fiber in the concrete is included.
